The hottest parties to look out for during the 2017 NBA annual general conference No doubt that the AGC is the grand coming together of all lawyers across the nation to network and learn more about new practice areas. And even though people may complain about not getting conference materials or the sloppiness of the organisers or one thing or the other; one thing never fails…….THE PARTIES! There are many privately organised and hosted parties/cocktails/ dinners etc that go on throughout the week of the AGC (even all night). This is where you really get to relax with senior and juniors; politicians and powerful lawyers and if you are lucky; you may even get an advantage by securing a job and other pecks……Let’s take a look at a few party categories and we tell you how to gain access into these side-private events NBA Branch Parties These are parties hosted by specific branches for their members. Not all branches can afford to host a party of this nature so while some of them book a whole events arena others just take their members to a fast food joint to have a meal at the expense of the Branch. Let’s however look at a few Branches that can pop the music: NBA Lagos Branch – No doubt the largest branch so they can afford to host their members. However, because of its conservative nature; the Branch’s party is usually cocktail like with light music and lots of exotic drinks…..if you want a quiet mature evening and a good night’s rest then attend the Lagos Branch Party with a friend……I must say however that the new Social Secretary is well exposed so we may be seeing a different atmosphere this time…who knows Abuja Branch – I would imagine a little bit like the Lagos Branch so nothing new here. However, they are not known to organise parties where everyone is invited Ikeja Branch – Now these guys have only one mission when it comes to AGC and that is to Partyyyyyyyyy………after you have attended all other parties, this is where you want to end up….not for the fainthearted….be warned Religious Parties For our more quietly disposed colleagues; the CLASFON Dinner and the Catholic Lawyers get-togethers are a solemn gathering where you can relax with your colleagues in a spiritually charged atmosphere. We have no record of MULAN (Muslim Lawyers) or other religious groups organising a get together but when we do we will let you know and keep you informed NLS Class Sets It is arguable as to which class set throws the best get-together but in our analysis; the older sets have an edge because they are richer and can afford all the pecks of having a great party. So if you want to crash their party; go with your boss (or your husband who is in that set…lol) YLF The young lawyers are not doing too bad when it comes to organising parties, although they need to seek for sponsorship to do this. It is therefore the funds they get that they end up working with. So if they get some good money; the party may rock but if they don’t…..it’s doomed. National Executives /Individuals interested in NBA Executive Positions This is the party you want to get into but you have to keep your ears to the ground and move with the right crew to get an invite. Usually, the info for these kind of party is not known till the last moment and it may clash with other parties of the same purpose so you have to choose carefully. The trick here (if there are more than one party going on at the same time) is to hop from one party to the other until you find the one with the best ambience that suits your taste. But sadly, we are in Lagos for this year (traffic issues) so you would need to keep in touch with as many as your friends as possible to find out which to attend as hopping may not be an option By and large; after a long day at the conference there is always the friendship center for others not so connected or who just want to be on their own.
