A retired Justice of the Supreme Court, Justice Pius Olayiwola Aderemi CON, has passed on. Justice Adeyemi joined his ancestors, on Monday, at a hospital in Ibadan, Oyo State after a brief illness, it was said. A statement issued by his son, Olakunle Aderemi, described Justice Adeyemi as a ‘devoted Catholic, defender of the law and an exemplary and incorruptible jurist’ of Nigeria’s apex court. Aderemi, 80, was at a time, a member of the National Judicial Council, member of the Body of Benchers of Nigeria, and was a Papal Knight of St. Gregory the Great. Former President Goodluck Jonathan, in December 2010, nominated Aderemi as chairman of the Independent and Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC). But he was dropped by the Senate on account of his old age (72 years) at that time.]]>
