* Calls for more investments The Dominican University, Ibadan held a fundraising dinner on the Thursday May 17, 2018. The Dominican University (DU) was licensed in November 22, 2016 is a university promoted by the Dominicans who have 800 years of experience in higher education. For 23 years, Dominican have run a philosophy degree programme, fully accredited by the National Universities Commission, at the Dominican Institute Ibadan. The University commenced operations in October 16, 2017 at their Samonda Campus, Sango U.I Road, Oyo Road, Ibadan. Its mission is to be a university that assists Nigeria to achieve the greatness her potential warrants. Its core values are: Integrity, Research, Innovation, Self Service and Excellence The Fundraising Dinner was organized to help expand the school’s facilities for phase one of the omotoso campus The program began with an opening prayer taken by His grace Felix Alaba Job, Archbishop Emeritus of Ibadan & Chairman Board of trustees. In his welcome address; Dr. ABC Orjiako, Chairman DU Fundraising Committee appreciated all those who could attend the Dinner. He sadly noted that the quality of education was going down in Nigeria hence the need for catholic institutions to rise up to the challenge by establishing institutions such as the Dominican University. He said that the funds raised will be used to build an administrative block, classrooms and hostels for the University. He called on people to donate towards the project Chief Bolaji Ayorinde, SAN in his opening remarks as the chairman for the evening’s event noted that he has a fairly rich catholic background and was happy to be present at the Dinner as the chairman of the day. Encouraged everyone to donate generously to the project. The keynote address was delivered by the President of the Nigerian Bar Association; Mr. Abubakar B. Mahmoud SAN. AB Mahmoud SAN noted the importance of education in the Nation. Recalling his role in academic development in Kano and in the nation in general said that most of our public university are in deplorable state. He also observe that statistics suggest that only 19.8% of students qualified to be admitted into universities are given admission. He therefore called on government to invest more in the educational sector and encouraged private individuals to also invest in private universities such as DU. A brief remark was made by Mr. Peter Obi the Pro Chancellor of DU and a former governor of Anambra State. He reiterated the need for more public investment in Education noting that knowledge and not Oil is the asset of any growing nation In closing; Chief Anthony Idigbe, SAN who is the chair of the dinner planning committee said that it was time to act and to support the efforts of the Dominicans to build and provide a suitable environment for higher learning in Nigeria Others present at the dinner were His Eminence Cardinal Emeritus Olubunmi Okojie; Peter Obi (Former Governor of Anambra State), Prof. Fr.
