Unveilng the names of the students yesterday, the Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Joseph Ahaneku said the university is the first in the sub Saharan Africa to host the Confucius Institute where exchange of language and culture takes place. He said the partnership which spans close to 10 years have seen over 180 students of the university awarded scholarship to study in various universities in China. Ahaneku said the gesture goes a long way to show the growing partnership between the University and the People’s Republic of China. According to the vice chancellor, the institution, through the Confucius Institute, has ordered her steps to mainstream in Chinese commerce, business, entrepreneurship, technology among others. “We are using this platform to drive all areas of human endeavour to train our students to become self reliant and job creators on graduation. “We are available and ready, give us the test and we will be able to take Nigeria to a higher level. I dream of a time, when products sold in various countries in Africa and beyond will have the inscription, ‘Made in Nigeria, Awka, Nnewi, etc’ and this is the surest way of empowerment and getting rid of unemployment.” he added. In his remarks, the Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, His Excellency, Zhou Ping Jian, disclosed that the two countries share a lot of similarities ranging from being the populous Nations in their respective continents to becoming the largest economies respectively. “Nigeria is so endowed with human capital and natural resources, hence has all it takes to become a leading manufacturing giant in Africa. China has shown great political willingness to support Nigeria’s industrialization. “The Confucius Institute can act as training base not only for languages but for some skills and cultural understanding and as a bridge between the Chinese business community and Nigerian business community” he said.]]>
