The trial of Chukwueme Onwuamadike, otherwise known as Evans, on Wednesday was again stalled. At the resumed trial before an Ikeja special offences Court on Wednesday, Nuel Brown, the new counsel to Evans, asked the court for an adjournment to enable him to study the case file properly. “I humbly ask for time to study the documents, ” Brown said. His application was however not objected by state prosecuting counsel, Adebayo Haroun. Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo adjourned the case till October 5 and 19, 2018 for continuation of trial. Brown was hired by Evans following the withdrawal of Olukoya Ogungbeje, his former lead defence counsel. Ogungbeje had on June 13 announced that he was withdrawing from the case following threats to his life and for personal reasons. Evans is standing trial alongside Uche Amadi, Ogechi Uchechukwu, Okwuchukwu Nwachukwu, Chilaka Ifeanyi and Victor Aduba who are also members of Evans syndicate. They are standing trial on a four-count charge of kidnapping and unlawful possession of firearms. They are accused of kidnapping Mr Sylvanus Ahamonu, holding him hostage for at least nine weeks and collecting a ransom of 420,000 dollars from his family.]]>
