The governor said none of the recommendations agreed with the state’s anti-grazing law. He accused the Federal Government of ignoring the implementation of its aspect of the recommendations contained in the reports of the various panels. The governor, who spoke through his Chief Press Secretary, Terver Akase, maintained that if the Federal Government was not able to implement the report of the panels it set up, Nigerians should also not expect compliance from the state government. Ortom stated, “I think we heard that they have abandoned that idea; we don’t know but there is no indication on the part of the Federal Government to implement whatever recommendations. “We in Benue State have already said what we think should be the issue about this herdsmen/farmers crisis. “We said if you are asking states to donate land, measuring 500 hectares, Benue State doesn’t have such land and in addition to that, we have a law in place which has prohibited open grazing.” Ortom added that the Federal Government should forget the idea of an open grazing in the state because the state government was committed to the implementation of the anti-grazing law.]]>
