According to reports made available to TheNigerialawyer(TNL) by a lawyer Sammy Etuk, Umoiyak had finished casting his ballots and was waiting with others for the votes to be collated and result announced when some armed policemen in company of thugs stormed the Unit, shooting sporadically and made away with the ballot papers. Mr. Umoiyak and another electorate were struck by stray bullets released by the police and thugs. He got injured by the bullet on his leg. Umoiyak was rushed to General Hospital, Anya, in Akwa Ibom by sympathizers for immediate medical attention but unfortunately was rejected by the hospital. He was later taken to University of Uyo Teaching Hospital where he is currently receiving medical treatment. Recall that It is an offence for hospital authorities to reject gunshot victims or ask for Police report before treatment. Talk more of a General Hospitals built and maintained with taxpayers’ money to reject any taxpayer in distress. The law also frowns at such I’ll treatment against any person. TheNigerialawyer recall that Lagos has recommended “a five-year-jail term for any person, hospital or authority, who stands by or omits to do his bit, which results in the unnecessary death of any person with bullet wounds,” We pray for quick and safe recovery of Raymond Umoiyak.]]>
