Isiaka, 19, of Angwan-Hausa, Garki village, FCT had pleaded guilty to the charge of theft, which is contrary to Section 287 of the Penal Code. He had told the court that he stole a phone because he needed money to enable him bury his late mother. When the Judge, Alhaji Umar Kagarko, noted that the accused was a serial criminal sentenced in the same court on several occasions for theft, Isiaka attempted to bolt out of the courtroom. Kagarko recalled that the ex-convict, during a theft case in March, had told the court that he needed the money to bury his late father. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Isiaka’s escape attempt was however fruitless as he was immediately restrained by officials. The judge, therefore, directed that the convict be remanded in prison custody till July 29, without bail due to his non remorseful attitude. Earlier, the prosecutor, Mr Urom Otu told the court that one Zayyanu Aliyu of No. 8, Wushishi Street, Garki 2, Abuja had reported the matter to the Garki police station on May 17. Otu said Aliyu was sleeping outside his house, when his phone, wallet containing five ATM cards, Identity card and other valuables were taken from him. He added that when the convict was arrested all the said items were recovered from him during investigation. (NAN)]]>
