Each year UNIV NIGERIA draws hundreds of university students from all over the country. They come to expand their horizons, exchange ideas and constructively reflect on the most important issues for today’s youth and society.
Univ Forum began in Rome 1968 with this objective: to annually offer a profound experience to roughly 3000 young people, where their ideas can come to life and grow. This year marks the 50th anniversary of Univ Forum.
Year after year in Nigeria, our students have met, discussed as well as listened to the protagonists of diverse areas of culture especially those who can testify to and explain the challenges facing our society. This year students from University of Ibadan, Pan Atlantic University, University of Lagos, University of Nigeria, University of Benin and the prestigious Institute for Industrial Technology.
This years UNIV has been held in Pan Atlantic University. While commenting on the theme of this years topic, the coordinator UNIV NIGERIA, Ikechukwu Onuoma Esq. commented that life is a story that is written in the first person but no one can write it without counting on the others. No human life is isolated. No man or woman is a single verse; we all make up one poem. Continuing on the same theme he stated that the youth glimpses the world in its greatness and imperfections. In the university, a student encounters both wonder and dissatisfaction. One feels a desire for change, along with a certain insecurity one never knows whether one’s efforts will be successful. 50 years ago, this same restlessness led to a revolution that overthrew all points of reference. Freedom was confused with unruliness, opening the way to the current liquid society. Like all ideologies, the student revolution of May 1968 did not do justice to the authentic greatness of the human person. To be effective, every paradigm shift needs reflection; it needs to listen to the deepest truth of the human heart. Otherwise, the “revolution” ends in chaos and debris…the human person needs to ask how we can build a better, more just, more human and cleaner future today.
In attendance were special guests; Rufai Oseni , Prof. R.A.C.E Achara, Dr. Darligton Agholor, Mr. Chineme Onuoma.
