The Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria (CSSLN) has called on the Chinese government to support its drive to digitise legislative processes across all state assemblies in the country.
Chairman of the Conference and Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, made the request on Friday during a courtesy visit to the Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Yu Dunhai, at the Chinese Embassy in Abuja.
Ogundoyin explained that the Conference is working to modernise legislative processes at the sub-national level by leveraging digital tools to promote transparency, enhance citizen engagement, and improve institutional efficiency.
“In line with global best practices, we are keen on fully digitising legislative processes at the sub-national level in Nigeria to enhance transparency, citizen participation, and institutional efficiency,” he said.
The speaker identified several areas for potential collaboration, including legislative capacity building, digital governance infrastructure, education and technology exchange, as well as strategic investment in infrastructure, agriculture, and small businesses.
Ogundoyin also appealed for scholarships, educational exchange programmes, and technology transfer opportunities for young Nigerians, noting that such partnerships would greatly benefit the country’s democratic and developmental goals.
He further stated that the Conference is eager to learn from China’s legislative drafting processes, committee systems, and policy development models.
In his response, Ambassador Yu Dunhai welcomed the initiative and lauded the efforts of the Conference in championing reforms in Nigeria’s legislative system. He assured the delegation of China’s willingness to strengthen bilateral cooperation with Nigerian state legislatures in the areas highlighted.
