The Chief Judge of the FCT High Court, Justice Ishaq Bello, has warned that insulting the judiciary, calling judges names and aligning them with any political group is wrong and a dangerous precedent.
Bello, who gave the warning yesterday in his address at the ceremonial court session for the commencement of the 2019/2020 legal year of the FCT judiciary, said it was regrettable that most of the criticism of the country’s judiciary were bare insults instead of them being constructive.
He said: “If anyone is dissatisfied with a decision of the court, they must follow due process provided by the hierarchical structure of our court system. We operate a self- cleansing institution where judicial decisions are subject to scrutiny and correction beginning from the lower courts to the highest; the Supreme Court.
“It is therefore very mischievous for anyone to discolour the Court’s reputation and bring it into disrepute through unfair, biased and oftentimes prejudiced denigration.”
