The Sokoto NBA said it was time that a division of the Supreme Court was created in each of the three geopolitical zones in the country. This was part of the recommendations contained in the communiqué it generated at the end of its 2017 Law Week. In the said communiqué read by its chairman, Sambo Wali, the Sokoto NBA also called for the restructuring of the office of the Attorney General of the Federation and the Minister of Justice. “To boost the confidence in the justice sector, appropriate judicial reforms aimed at speedy dispensation of justice and resolution of disputes should be vigorously pursued. “Alternative dispute resolution should be encouraged by lawyers as a better means of resolving conflicts,” the Sokoto NBA said. It harped on the need to appoint additional high court judges, khadis of the Sharia Court of Appeal and magistrates in Sokoto State, in order to create more judicial divisions. The highlights of the week-long event included inauguration of the NBA state-of-the-art secretariat, legal clinic to advise the public on legal issues, visitation to inmates and orphanages, prisons and bench forum where members from both sides suggested ways to function optimally in the administration of justice, lectures, novelty match, dinner and award night.]]>
