Ekpenyong, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party for the February 23 National Assembly election, scored 118,215 votes to defeat Akpabio of the All Progressives Congress, who secured 83,158. The former Akwa Ibom State governor had secured an ex parte order restraining INEC from issuing Ekpenyong a certificate of return. But Ekpenyong has advised Akpabio to approach the Election Petitions Tribunal. In an interview with newsmen, the former deputy governor of the state said, “The court in Abuja has no jurisdiction in this matter. If he is aggrieved that I won, he should have gone to the tribunal set up to handle post-election matters. “He cannot stop INEC from issuing a certificate of return because I won the election. I defeated him in eight out of 10 local government areas in the senatorial district.”]]>
