Leading the debate on the bill, he said the amendment intended to realign the laws of the polytechnics to suit the operations of contemporary technical education at the tertiary level. He said the passage of the amendment bill would relieve polytechnics of the encumbrances inherent in the subsisting Act and make the institutions more efficient and functional as institutions of higher learning. “The core areas intended to be strengthened by this amendment are the structures of the governing boards, the academic board and the management as well as the tenure of principal officers,” he said.
