Justice Abdul Kafarati made the order following an ex parte application by Saraki’s counsel Ahmed Raji seeking to restrain government agencies and officials from continuing the trial of the senate president. In the order, Justice Kafarati directed the invitees to come and show cause why the application to halt Saraki’s trial should not be made. Others summoned by the judge are: the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) and its chairman Sam Baba, the CCT, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC), the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Mohammed Diri, and Muslim Hassan, a deputy director in the Ministry of Justice, and Ataedzeagu Adza. Saraki was on September 22 arraigned by the CCB before the CCT on a 13-count charge of false assets declaration. However, Saraki on November 12 obtained an order of the Supreme Court halting the trial pending the determination of an appeal challenging the corruption charges before the CCT which was earlier refused by the Appeal Court in Abuja. Meanwhile, Justice Kafarati has adjourned the case to tomorrow for hearing.]]>
