Unless Nigerians totally embrace the principles and respect for rule of law, the country cannot make landmark progress as a nation.
The Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, stated this in Sokoto Thursday.
He said any society that seeks to jettison the culture and respect for rule of law will continue to be doomed.
“Any society that has no respect for the rule of law is doomed,” he maintained.
The Sultan, who spoke at the opening of the 8th Annual National conference of the Muslim Lawyers’ Association of Nigeria ( MULAN), pointed out that any society without respect for the rule of law, justice, equity, fairness and equality will fail in all its pursuits.
A book titled: ‘’ Islamic Law and Contemporary Issues in Nigeria,’’ authored by the association in honour of the Sultan, was also presented to the public at the event.
Abubakar further challenged the association to strive to be financially independent, publicize its activities and also voice its views on some current national issues.
