The Presidency has cautioned the Senator representing Borno South, Mohammed Ali Ndume, over what it described as his reckless and unguarded statements made during a recent television appearance.

According to the Presidency, such utterances diminish the credibility of the lawmaker, a former Chief Whip of the Senate, and do not command the respect of “any right-thinking person.”

Reacting to Ndume’s claims that a cabal has hijacked President Bola Tinubu’s administration and that “kleptocrats and kakistocrats” dominate the government, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, accused the high-ranking senator of making sweeping allegations without providing a scintilla of proof.

“Ndume is entitled to his opinion, as a lone-wolf opposition within the APC, though he most often gets his facts wrong or builds his thesis on a specious, faulty foundation,” Onanuga said.

“Just like he falsely claimed that General Buratai was ambushed by terrorists, here again, a ranking senator is making reckless statements on television. Such behavior cannot command the respect of any reasonable person.

“His allegation that kleptocrats and kakistocrats dominate the government is too sweeping—and made without a shred of evidence. Kakistocrats? Does he even understand the meaning of the word, or does he simply enjoy throwing around loaded terms?”

Onanuga defended the Tinubu administration, insisting the President is surrounded by competent and accomplished professionals working diligently to stabilize and grow the Nigerian economy.

“This President has many capable aides, many of whom were successful professionals before joining government. And they are doing a damn good job reengineering the country’s economy and laying a solid foundation for sustainable growth,” he said.

“The results of their collective effort are clear: the Nigerian economy is improving. Foreign direct investment is rising, the stock market is booming, companies are declaring substantial profits, and the nation’s foreign reserves are now six times higher than what President Tinubu inherited.

“Revenue generation has been phenomenal, and states are receiving more funds from the federal government.”

Contrary to Senator Ndume’s assertions, Onanuga insisted that President Tinubu remains deeply connected to the Nigerian people.

“He empathizes with the populace and consistently assures them that the difficulties of the first two years will soon be a thing of the past. The government is addressing the high cost of food and medicine, while ramping up social investment programs for the vulnerable and less privileged,” Onanuga concluded.
