PROHIBITION OF USAGE OF WATER FROM RIVER AND OTHER WATERCOURSES.
In Nigeria, generally, any person may freely take water from any river, stream, wells, boreholes, lake, lagoon or other watercourses, either for domestic purpose or for watering his livestock or fishing.
However, the Minister of Water Resources, may, in time of “actual” or “anticipated” shortage of water in Nigeria, limit the amount of water which Nigerians may take from any of the watercourses.
SEE SECTIONS 2 & 4(b) of the Water Resources (Amendment) Act 2016.
