Professor of law and Provost, College of Law, Kwara State Univeristy, Prof. Abiodun Amuda-Kannike (SAN) will on Friday grace the 2019 annual conference organized by the Section on Public Interest and Development Law of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA).

The three-day event titled “Lawyering in the Public Interest” which kicked off in Aba, Abia State on 5th November will have participants brainstorm on making public interest to overwhelmingly count in the legal practice and profession.

Other dignitaries at the event are the National President of the Nigerian Bar Association, Mr. Paul Usoro (SAN), Elder Paul Ananaba (SAN), Mr. Ikeazor Akaraiwe; chairman, Consumer Protection Council (CPC) and the Attorney General of the Federation/Minister of Justice, Mr. Abubarka Malami (SAN) who would deliver a keynote address.

Other participants are: Uche Onwudiwe; Attorney General of Abia state, Chief Joe Kyari Gadzama (SAN), Chief Chibuike Nwokeukwu (SAN), Assam Assam (SAN), Dr. Onyechi Ikpeazu (SAN), Mr. Dayo Akpata (SAN), Femi Falana (SAN) and Hon Justice O.A.K. Ogwe who chairs a session, “Public interest lawyering, global best practices and developments”.

Also in the list are Mr. Frank Mba, Force Public Relation Officer of the Nigerian Police, Dr. Livy Uzoukwu (SAN), Asiwaju Solomon Awomolo (SAN), Goddy Uche (SAN), Chief Emeka Ngige (SAN) and Hon. Justice L.T.C. Eruba who chairs a session themed. “Promoting the rule of law: Roles and perspectives of Attorney-General of states actors”.

On Friday, Hon Justice I. Nwabughogu will chair a session with a theme, “Frameworks for combating corruption in Nigeria: Developing a sustainable and institutional model” with Dr. Musa Usman Abubarka as lead speaker while the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubarka Adamu and Prof. Amuda-Kannike (SAN) are co-speakers on the topic.

Hon Justice Anyim chairs the second session with a theme, “Beneficial ownership reforms in natural resources exploitation in Nigeria: Implementation timelines and role of lawyers” while Mr. Austin Alegeh (SAN) presides over the third session, “Regulating in public interest-imperativeness of regulation in economic development and growth” with Engr. Chidi Izuwa; DG, Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC) as lead speaker.

The fourth session which focuses on “Class action: Proposal for legislative, legal and judicial frameworks for achieving mass remedies in Nigeria” is chaired by Dr. Babatunde Ajibade (SAN) with Mr. Okey Ilofulunwa, Uche Obi (SAN), Okey Amaechi (SAN) among speakers, while the fifth session is chaired by Hon Justice Uche Enwereji with Professor Sam Erugo as lead speaker.
