Alegeh stated this at the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) in Jos, on Thursday, stating that the stamp regime is to check quacks in the profession. He said that part of measures put in place to check practitioners, is to ensure that “only the affidavits of lawyers with stamp would be allowed in courts”. He also said the issuance of the stamp is tied to the payment of professional fee of a member. Welcoming members of the Bar, the Chairman NBA Jos Branch, Ledak Dafer, commended the President of the Bar for all the innovations he has put in place. His words: “I must commend Mr. President for all the innovations he has introduce to raise the standard of the Bar to this enviable position. Time and space may not permit me to chronicle all the innovations and achievements made so far. However, worthy of mention is the introduction of Practice Stamps for all legal Practitioners and through this, many fake lawyers have been identified”. “However, as good as this innovation are, the validity period written on the stamps is capable of grave misinterpretation”.
