The Nigeria Police Force has directed all serving officers nationwide to transfer their Retirement Savings Accounts (RSAs) to NPF Pensions Limited on or before August 31, 2025, as part of efforts to consolidate police pension accounts and implement rank-based pension enhancements.

The directive, issued by the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, follows a formal request from the Managing Director/CEO of NPF Pensions Limited, Mr. Kolade Moradeyo. In a letter received by the police leadership on July 3, 2025, Moradeyo urged the IGP to instruct all officers who are yet to migrate their RSAs to do so within two months to facilitate ongoing reforms.

Moradeyo’s letter emphasized that the National Pension Commission (PenCom), Police Management, and NPF Pensions Limited had reached a consensus on the need for improved pension benefits for police officers. He stated that full RSA consolidation would provide a uniform database required to compute enhanced pension percentages based on ranks and steps.

Responding to the appeal, the IGP’s Principal Staff Officer, DCP Lateef Adio Ahmed, issued a circular dated July 7, 2025, to the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Finance and Administration. The memo conveyed the IGP’s directive that all personnel who have not yet transferred their pension accounts must do so without delay.

Further reinforcing the order, a follow-up circular dated July 10, 2025, was issued by AIG Godwin I. Eze on behalf of the Deputy Inspector-General. It was addressed to all Deputy and Assistant Inspectors-General of Police, commandants of police training institutions, and Commissioners of Police across all 36 states and the FCT.

“The DIG, Department of Finance and Administration, requests/directs that you ensure all personnel under your command migrate their RSAs to NPF Pensions Limited not later than 31st August 2025,” the circular stated.

This renewed push is aimed at streamlining the police pension structure under a single fund manager, NPF Pensions Limited, which was established exclusively to manage police pensions under the Contributory Pension Scheme.

Previously, many officers had opened RSAs with other Pension Fund Administrators (PFAs), complicating pension benefit calculations and disbursements. The consolidation is expected to enable NPF Pensions Limited to implement a more equitable and structured enhancement system.

Meanwhile, the fund manager is also working to resolve outstanding pension obligations. Sources within the institution disclosed that it is currently clearing 20 months of unpaid accrued rights using proceeds from a N758 billion bond recently secured.

The coordinated effort underscores a broader initiative by the police leadership and NPF Pensions Limited to secure better retirement benefits for officers and ensure consistency and transparency in pension administration.
