…At closed session, ‘Like Minds’ Senators seek commencement of impeachment proceedings against President ….Remi Tinubu’s description of fight against Presidency as ‘kindergarten’ sparks outrage, barbs from Melaye Loyalists of President Muhammadu Buhari and arch supporters of the Senate President, Bukola Saraki were almost at daggers drawn on Tuesday over the ongoing trial of Saraki and his Deputy, Ike Ekweremadu on alleged forgery of Senate documents, with the former group seeking the impeachment of the President. An executive session called by the leadership had degenerated into a rowdy session as the two factions traded words on the issues at stake. Some Senators in separate chats with newsmen had revealed that trouble started during the Senate’s closed door session when the pro-Saraki Senators launched an attack against the person of President Buhari, indicating their resolve to commence impeachment proceedings against him. According to reports, Senator Dino Melaye (APC Kogi West) in the process, flared up and threatened to beat up Senator Oluremi Tinubu when she used the word ‘kindergarten’ in her attempt to sound a note of caution on her colleagues over the plot to impeach the President. Melaye, Senators revealed used derogatory sexual words which the female Senator found irksome, a development which increased tension in the Chambers. A Senator who craved anonymity disclosed that the fight was clearly between members of the opposing groups in the Senate, “the Like Minds” who support Saraki and the “Unity Forum” his antagonist who are having the backing of the Presidency. When the Session commenced, the “Like Minds” Senators had appealed to their colleagues in the “Unity Forum”, specifically Senators Suleiman Othman Hunkuyi, and Kabir Marafa to withdraw their pending cases in court against Saraki in the interest of peace. Loyaists of Saraki, it was said, insisted that the strength of the new criminal forgery case against Saraki and Ekweremadu was premised on the civil suits instituted by the duo. Senator Dino Melaye, according to Senators, insisted that those being used by the executive to harass Saraki, especially, the Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, must be dealt with. Melaye, it was said, insisted that the Attorney General of the Federation who instituted a suit against Saraki and others must be forced to appear before the senate and must be ridiculed thoroughly to serve as a deterrent to others working for the president in the bid to pull the Senate President down. Senator Tinubu who was said to have been given the opportunity to speak immediately after Melaye allegedly commented that some words and action of some senators in the fight against the presidency was “like a kindergarten pupil”, a statement that allegedly threw Senator Melaye into a fit of rage. Senators disclosed that Melaye quickly rose to cut Tinubu short as he allegedly shouted her down, a move resisted by the female senator who was said to have told Melaye she’s not his age mate. It was said that while Senator Melaye whose voice raised higher than Tinubu’s was battering her with derogatory words, the Senate President was said to have been chuckling contentedly as Senator Tinubu struggled to match Melaye word for word. While a few of the Senators were said to have made efforts towards getting both senators to calm down, four other male senators, made up two from PDP and two from APC were said to have joined Melaye in abusing Senator Tinubu. Some Senators revealed that the drama during closed door session at the Upper chambers had earlier been rehearsed at the residence of a former governor at Aso Rock, as plans on how to save Saraki from looming embarrassment were launched.]]>
