This revelation was made known by the president of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Ayuba Wabba at the 10th anniversary lecture of Trustfund Pension Plc in Abuja. This is just as the managing director/CEO of Trustfund Pension Helen Da-Souza disclosed that the Assets under Management (AuM) of the company has hit an access of N300 billion with contributors now standing at 600, 000. The NLC president who was represented by deputy NLC president, Peters Adeyemi said there is an urgent need for civil servants in the affect states to be enrolled in the scheme. He said, “despite the fact that the problem of retired teachers at the state and local government levels, arguably kick-started the agitation for pension reforms in the country, after the return to civil rule, when it eventually became a reality in 2004, public servants in the states and local governments across the federation were excluded from coverage “Though the 2014 amendment to the Pension Reform Act rectified the omission in the 2004 Act, the fact that only 10 states out of 36 states, have completed the process of legislation, and full contributory schemes are in place as at last quarter of 2015, shows the effect of the non-inclusion of states in the earlier reforms, even as the Pension Act of 1990, took care to have nation wide coverage.” In her address, the managing director of the Fund, Mrs Helen Da-Sousa said the Fund has over 600, 000 registered contributors, out of which about 8000 members are earning monthly pensions from the company. Da-Sousa added that despite the challenges Trustfund faces when it couldn’t make the list of first seven PFAs that were issued licence on December 7, 2005 the company still found a place in the top league of the PFAs. “We are proud of this modest contribution because Trustfund was licence on 13th January 2006, having failed to make the list of the first seven PFAs that were issued licenses on 7th December 2005”. According to her, the company could not have done less due to the vision of the fund which is “to be the leader and market maker for funds management in the financial services industry”.]]>
