This came as former Niger Delta militant leader, Alhaji Mujahid Dokubo-Asari on Thursday vowed that the he would join other Rivers State citizens to prevent election rigging in tomorrow’s rerun elections in the state. The PDP warned that dire consequences would follow any attempt by the APC to push on with its plot to impose a state of emergency in the state. In a statement signed by the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh, on Thursday, the party said it was privy to a grand design by the APC to orchestrate violence in the state with a view to truncating the elections, having realised that the PDP and its candidates are more popular and ready to win overwhelmingly in all the reruns. The party said it had also rallied all its formation in the state to stiffly resist by all means necessary in a democracy, any move by the APC to scuttle the Saturday’s national and state assembly rerun elections in the state. “We are aware that the orchestration of violence is designed to serve as stimulus for the planned imposition of a state of emergency to enable the APC forcefully take over the state which it failed to get through the ballot box. We also know that the design to unleash violence is behind the recent infamous call by APC spokesman in Ondo State, Omo’ba Abayomi Adesanya, for emergency rule in Rivers State. “What else, apart from the execution of this plot explains the complaints from our candidates and members in state of constant threats by partisan security operatives as well as the recent gale of arrests, attacks and killing of PDP supporters in the state? “But let it be known that Rivers State is a stronghold of the PDP and that such profane quest would be squarely and comprehensively greeted with intense resistance and very dire consequences. “Our position is guarded by the fact that we remain a responsible and law-abiding party committed to the sanctity of our electoral process, the interest and will of the Nigerian people. Besides, we have the numbers, and the people of the state are solidly behind us.” PDP said it totally welcomed President Muhammadu Buhari’s warning to those instigating violence and causing mayhem in the state. Meanwhile, South-South chapter of the party has raised fresh alarm over alleged plots by the APC administration to rig next Saturday’s rerun elections into Rivers State Assembly and National Assembly. The South-South Zonal Vice Chairman, Dr. Cairo Ojoughoh, alleged that the massive deployment of the military personnel to the state is aimed “at arm twisting the electorate and hand over the election re-run to APC.” He cautioned: “Any attempt to rig the election will not only led to anarchy but a crisis whose end cannot be determined by anybody.” South-south PDP leader urged the party supporters in the state “to defend their votes, obey all civil rules, avoid anything that could led to confrontation with the military,” adding that they should “stand firmly to collate their results at the polling units and follow it up to the collation centres.” However, Dokubo-Asari in a statement said his Niger Delta People Salvation Front (NDPSF) and the Niger Delta People Volunteer Force (NDPVF) would be readily available to ensure that will of the people prevails in the election. In the statement, ex-militant leader said: “Let it be known that the Alhaji Mujahid Abubakr Dokubo-Asari-led NDPSF/NDPVF will join millions of Rivers people to resist any form of electoral rigging at the coming Saturday’s Senate, House of Representatives and House of Assembly elections. “Our position on the Rivers elections is unambiguous; it is simple and clear. It is let there be no form of electoral manipulations, let the will of the people be sacrosanct. Let no president, army, police, minister, governor, militant leader or even media or observer try to manipulate the elections nor mislead the people. We demand Let the wishes of the people prevail.” According to him, the former governor and Minister for Transport and Aviation, Hon. Rotimi Amaechi would also not be allowed to move beyond his polling unit. “Let every voter be confined to his polling booth and let no big man subvert the rules. Let us clearly warn, should Ameachi who is personally planning to swap results be allowed to move from his unit to other voting units by whatever guise protected by agents of the state will be an open invitation to violence and chaos,” he said. Dokubo added that: “Let the forces of the rampaging Fulani herdsman know that the people of Rivers State will totally resist an occupational Army of Slave masters, taskmasters, field slaves and house slaves. “Rivers people are ready to vote and will defend the outcome of their votes. It is in the best interest of all that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) that things are done properly, not allowing itself to be the harbinger of violence, should they compromise, they would be resisted. “The good people of Rivers State know already that the PDP best represents the interest of Rivers people and by extension the Niger Delta region and will overwhelmingly vote for the party.”]]>
