Chief Osita Chidoka, former Federal Road Safety Corps Marshal and senior cabinet minister, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
In a heartfelt letter addressed to the PDP Ward Chairman in Obosi, Anambra State, dated November 29, 2024, Chidoka reflected on his extensive journey with the party and his decision to step away from partisan politics.
Chidoka recounted his role as a founding member of the PDP, beginning with the historic Jos convention in 1998. He highlighted his contributions to the party’s intellectual framework, including crafting key policy documents such as the PDP Manifesto and strategic roadmaps under President Olusegun Obasanjo’s administration. He also played pivotal roles in three presidential campaigns and credited the PDP for providing opportunities that allowed him to contribute significantly to national development.
However, Chidoka stated that his current focus is the Athena Centre for Policy and Leadership, a nonpartisan research institute dedicated to objective, data-driven policy recommendations. He explained that this new mission demands a neutral stance, free from political affiliations.
“As I step away from active partisan politics, I remain committed to good governance, national unity, and evidence-based public service,” Chidoka said. He reaffirmed his hope for a united Nigeria guided by inclusivity and equity, principles he believes are essential for nation-building.
While leaving the PDP with “immense respect and gratitude,” Chidoka expressed optimism about the party’s continued efforts to reposition itself as a force for positive change in Nigeria. He concluded with a personal mantra: “Our national aspiration of building a nation where no man is oppressed will be realized sooner rather than later.”
