Rather, he said what he was aware of was that former chairmen and councillors were in court claiming their entitlements from the state government. Ibebuchi, who spoke to newsmen on the commission’s preparedness for Saturday’s local government election, said the electoral body would require 8,000 adhoc staff to conduct the election in 3,523 polling units in a total of 44 voting points. According to him, about 14 political parties would be participating in the election out of the 22 parties, whose primaries it supervised, stressing that others could not participate because they probably lacked the capacity. He said that ISIEC followed all due process in preparing for the election, adding that the commission will provide level playing ground for all the participating political parties. However, the names of the political parties he reeled out did not include the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and other parties with strong showing in Imo. Among the parties contesting the election are the All Progressives Congress (APC), KOWA party, Peoples Redemption Party, Young Progressives Party, Social Democratic Party, Mega Party and All Congress Alliance. Others are Peoples Party of Nigeria, Accord Party, Green Party of Nigeria, United Democratic Party, African Democratic Congress amongst others. He said, “The 2018 local government election in Imo state require over 8,000 adhoc staff of varying academic standard. Mindful of this critical segment of the electoral process, ISIEC went extra mile to conduct a three-in-one examination (English language, Mathematicss and current affairs) so that only the best will be good enough for Imolites.” Ibebuchi said that the election is not by compulsion or coercion as all the processes leading to the election were done with high level of openness and integrity. ]]>
