NBA BRANCH ELECTION MONITORING COMMITTEE, was constituted and mandated to monitor, supervise and direct the election of the NBA Branches. Further to this, notices were sent to all NBA Branch Chairmen, directing that all NBA Branch Executives whose tenure would expire in 2016 should conduct fresh elections for branch officers in June, 2016 in accordance with the NBA Constitution and Uniform Bye-Laws for Branches. NBA Ikeja Branch was one of affected Branches. Following the NBA Ikeja Branch elections held on Monday, 13 June 2016, the NBA Branch Election Monitoring Committee received several petitions from aggrieved parties of the NBA Ikeja Branch pertaining to the qualification to hold office in the Branch, especially for the office of the Chairman. The NBA President notes with serious concern the several issues arising out of its Branches elections following our amended Constitution and Uniform Bye-laws for Branches. The failure of the parties to abide by the decision of the NBA Branch Election Monitoring Committee has resulted in the leadership dispute currently engulfing the Branch. This has given rise to the need by the President of NBA to meet with the parties and to take all steps to ensure that this dispute is resolved amicably. In view of the above, the President of the NBA, A. B Mahmoud SAN, will be holding a meeting with all parties concerned in the dispute tomorrow, Thursday, 8 September, 2016 at 3:00pm. The meeting will be also be attended by leaders of the Ikeja Branch such as Deacon Dele Adesina SAN, Dr. Muiz Banire SAN, and Mr. Layi Babatunde SAN. The President enjoins all parties to consider the interest of the Bar in finding amicable resolution of all outstanding issues concerning the leadership dispute of the NBA Ikeja Branch. Thank you in anticipation of your cooperation. Dated 7 September, 2016 Isiaka Abiola Olagunju Esq. General Secretary]]>
