NBA Owerri Branch Calls For Immediate Resignation Of Rochas Okorocha

Speaking with TheNigerialawyer, the Chairman of the Bar Association, Lawrence Nwaketi, Esq. said ” Gov Rochas Okorocha is not fit to remain the Governor of Imo State since he failed to obey an interlocutory Order granted by Hon.Justice S.I Opara of the High Court, restraining the Government of Imo State from removing or relocating the Eke Ukwu Owerri pending the hearing and determination of the substantive suit.” The Association is also calling on the Federal government through the office of the Attorney General of Federation or the National Assembly to set up an independent commission of inquiry to look into the affairs of what happened and to bring to book the those involved in this mayhem which took place on Saturday, 26th August,2017. “Since the black Saturday incident, the situation has generated further mayhem in the state,”Mr Lawman said. He also informed TheNigerialawyer that “on Wednesday, 30th August, 2017, there was another clash between armed youths of Ohaji Egbema and Owerri Youths, as a result of the clash about 3 lives were lost.” According to him “there is a pending case before Hon. Justice S.I. Opara in respect to the Eke Ukwu Owerri initiated by indigenes of Owerri against the government of Imo State at the High Court of the state. Hon. Justice Opara granted an interlocutory Order Restraining the government from removing the market or relocating same pending the determination of the main suit. Gov. Rochas Okorocha who was represented by the Attorney General of the state and government of Imo state mobilized solders, Civil defence, Police Officers, Militants from Ohaji Egbema, and stormed Eke Ukwu Owerri market on Saturday, 26th August, 2017, shooting sporadically, thereby killing a ten year old boy who happens to be the only son of his parents, while so many got injuried and most of them are at the various hospitals recuperating.” The Chairman sympathizes with the families of the victim and also enjoins Owerri indigenes and members of the public to remain law abiding.]]>
