NBA Notice: Payment Of Bar Practicing Fees [BPF] For The Year 2018

Dear Sir/Ma,

This is to inform you that the annual payment for the Bar Practicing fees by all lawyers called to the Nigerian Bar has commenced from January 1^st, 2018 and will end on March 31^st, 2018.

All Legal Practitioners enrolled at the Supreme Court of Nigeria whether in private, public or corporate practice are required to pay practicing fees on yearly basis, pursuant to Rules 9 (1)-(3) of the Rules of  Professional Conduct.

Please note that with effect from January 1^st, 2018 Bar Practicing Fees shall only be paid into the following account using a customized teller provided by the bank:

The schedule of Bar Practicing fees is as follows:

1. Senior Advocates & Honorable Benchers – N50,000
2. Legal Practitioners of 15 Years & more post-call-N25,000
3. Legal Practitioners of 10-14 Years post call- 17,500
4. Legal Practitioners 5-9 Years post call – 10,000
5. Legal Practitioners of 0-4 Years post call- N5,000

All members are requested to kindly indicate their branch names and branch codes on the payment tellers for Bar Practicing Fees. The Bank codes for Branches of the NBA are contained in the list attached to this letter.

Legal Practitioners are expected to pay their Practicing Fees in full before the 31^st of March, 2018, failure to do this puts defaulters at risk of forfeiting every right which a Legal Practitioner enjoys in Court, corporate practice or as an in-house counsel and loss of other rights and privileges generally. It also constitutes a gross act of Professional Misconduct and it would be so treated.

TAKE NOTICE: A Legal Practitioner shall not sign documents, pleadings, affidavits, depositions, applications, instruments, agreements, letters, deeds, letters, memoranda, reports, legal opinions or similar documents, or process or file such documents as a legal practitioner, legal officer or adviser of any Governmental department or ministry, company, organisation, or any corporation when he/she is in default of payment of his/her Annual Practicing fees.
