The Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) has decried the alleged fragrant abuse of the rule of law by the Imo State Government, stressing that a situation where legislature assumed executive functions negates the tenets of democracy and rule of law. It said the action of the State Government was not only preposterous but against the rule of law.
Daily Times had reported that Governor Rochas Okorocha, in September 2015, appointed members of the state legislators to run the local government system in the state for a period of three months.
Addressing a news conference in Owerri, on Wednesday, the Chairman of NBA Owerri branch, Mr. Stanley Imo, said it was not done anywhere in the world where the rule of law was observed and respected that legislature assumed the duties of the executive.
He therefore, called on the State Government to restore the rule of law in the state, saying that the current practices should be jettisoned.
