The Benin Branch of the Nigerian Bar Association has asked the Edo State Government to immediately withdraw the letter attempting to scuffle the process of appointing five additional judges for the High Court of the state.

The Branch made this resolution on its monthly general meeting held on the 2nd of June, 2019.

In the notice signed by the Publicity Secretary of the branch, Douglas Ogbankwa Esq., the branch reiterated its belief in the independence of the Judiciary, and the fact that each arm of government is to work for the development of the state without necessary usurping the power of the other.

It is, therefore, the hope of the branch that the Executive arm of the state will allow the National Judicial Council (NJC) to perform its function as enshrined in Section 153 of the Constitution.
