Think about all the people that we know who are very successful in business, in politics and religion, and leadership. What are they? What do they have in common? They present purposeful visions and translate same to reality in the interest of their followers. They do not give people stories that are meant only to please their ears. They instead move people to action by aiming at the people’s heart. It then boils down to the words of a statesman and the the 6th President of the USA, John Quincy Adams: If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, then you are a great leader. I have taken time to closely and carefully study the manifestos and proposed programs of all the three contestants to the position of NBA President in the light of the prevailing circumstances in the legal profession and what I consider to be genuine expectations of members of the bar. I conducted this study all on my own, and not on anyone’s promoting nor at anyone’s instance This is why I had never spoken in support of anyone until a few days ago; I needed to take time to ensure I am working and talking in the best interest of the Nigerian Bar. While I find in all the three candidates pure gentlemen and respected bar men, I am convinced beyond doubt that Professor Ernest Ojukwu, SAN, is the man that has said what it would take, and is actually most earnestly determined to take, the Nigerian Bar out of its current predicaments by building on what’s in ground in order to elevate the Bar and Bench in Nigeria to an enviable level. Professor Ojukwu’s efforts in the Law School, under the able leadership of the indefatigable Prof Tahir Mamman (Dr Mamman, as he then was), in driving a radical positive change in the Bar Final Teaching Curriculum, which saw a fundamental positive transformation in the mode of teaching and learning of procedural law in Nigeria today, are an eloquent testimony to what the Teacher-Silk could and would do if entrusted with leadership of the NBA in the next two years. If he achieved that feat under another person’s leadership, imagine what he could do being himself the leader? Hence I most humbly encourage Nigerian Lawyers to please consider having Professor Ojukwu as the next NBA President. He’d make the positive difference we clamour for. There’s no doubt in my mind about this. I respectfully and ERNESTLY beg us to shake off personal gains and any form of inducements from any quarters and wisely make the right choice, in the best interest of the Nigerian Bar. It was John C. Maxwell who once declared that ”Life is a matter of choices, and every choice you make makes you.” One makes one`s own choices, but must be prepared to live with the consequences of those choices. In the words of Cathlin Shahriary, ”all great choices are made with great risks. You must decide for yourself if the consequences are worth the action you are willing to take.” This is true basically because one’s life is only an expression of the choices one has made. Our choices in the next two days, starting today, would determine the condition of Nigerian Bar in the next two years. ✔Please, let us EARNESTLY choose Professor Ernest Ojukwu as the next NBA President. ✔God bless all the three candidates; ✔God Bless the noble Nigerian Bar; ✔God Bless a United, Indivisible Nigeria! It is well with us all! Yours sincerely , SYLVESTER UDEMEZUE (Udems). (11.24am on Saturday, 18 August 2018)]]>
