The Nigerian Air Force has confirmed the arrest of its personnel who were allegedly involved in the killing of two persons in the Mabera area of Sokoto State last Sunday.

The air force stated this on Thursday but did not disclose the names or number of personnel arrested.

It added that investigations were ongoing and appropriate sanctions would be applied against any culpable personnel.

The NAF Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ibikunle Daramola, in a release, said the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, had dispatched a “high powered delegation led by the Air Officer Commanding, Tactical Air Command, Air Vice Marshal Charles Ohwo, to undertake a fact-finding mission and pay condolence visits to the deceased’s families.”

Reacall that NAF personnel allegedly on Sunday stormed the Mabera area, shooting two residents dead during an altercation over a girlfriend.

The deceased were identified as Abdulsalam Lawan, a student and Maryam Abdulrahman, a mother of seven children.

The NAF spokesman on Thursday said, “An independent Board of Inquiry has been constituted to determine the level of culpability of the NAF personnel, who have since been placed on arrest. The NAF regrets the loss of lives and injury to civilians occasioned by the unfortunate incident, which also left some NAF personnel with severe injuries.”
