The Nigerian Air Force said on Monday it had begun investigation of the airmen allegedly involved in the killing of two people in the Mabera area of Sokoto State.

NAF said it would apply appropriate sanctions if the airmen were found to have committed the offence.

NAF personnel were accused of storming the Mabera area on Sunday night and shot dead two residents over a girlfriend belonging to one of airmen.

The deceased were identified as Abdulsalam Lawan, a student, and Maryam Abdulrahman, a mother of seven children.

The NAF Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ibikunle Daramola, said in a statement they had commenced investigation into the incident.

He said, “There has been an allegation of the unfortunate killing of two people at Mabera area of Sokoto as a result of a fracas between NAF personnel and suspected Islamic Movement in Nigeria youths within the community. However, details regarding the unfortunate incident, which also led to some NAF personnel sustaining serious injuries, are still sketchy.

“Consequently, the NAF is investigating the matter to ascertain the facts as well as establishing the degree of involvement of its personnel.”
