Shekarau, Wali and Mansur Ahmed had been arraigned before the court on May 24 by the Economic and Financial Crime Commission for alleged laundering of N950m. When the case came up yesterday for hearing, counsel to the EFCC, Jonson Ojogbane was absent. Counsel to the 1st dependent (Shekarau), J.S Okutepa, informed the court that the prosecution counsel had on November 30 served him with a letter requesting An adjournment of the case to January, 27 and 28, 2019. In his ruling, Justice A.L Allagoa, said according to the EFCC’s letter, the leading counsel was in Kaduna attending to another case before an Appeal Court and that since the matter before him was for hearing on 3rd and 4th of December, the prosecution counsel still had remaining one day to appear before the court. “I have seen a copy of the letter which indicated a notice of motion of hearing in an appeal court sitting in Kaduna and which the leading counsel is expected to appear before the court. Since the matter before this honorable court is fixed for hearing for today 3rd December 2018 (yesterday) and tomorrow 4th December 2018 (today), therefore, the matter should stand as such to see whether the prosecution will appear the court tomorrow (today) or not,” Allagoa ruled. ]]>
