Katung and three others, including the Managing Director, Dadin Kowa Micro Finance Bank Ltd in Jos, Mr Irimiya Maman Jatau were arraigned by the operatives of the EFCC on a 24–count charge for defrauding over 64,000 depositors of huge sums of money said to be over N11.5bn in 2012 through the defunct Covenant Fadama Cooperative Society, located in Jos, Plateau state. The court had on 9th December, 2015 granted bail to Katung in the case while his co-accused, Mr Jatau is yet to be released from prison custody since February this year when he was remanded. At the resumed hearing yesterday, Obishai accused the Bishop of working to tarnish his image in his attempt to defend his case. He said: “my Lord, I will not take this from my client. He has accused me of collecting over N75,000 from him and did nothing to save him from prison custody for two days when he was remanded. He has even written to the NBA requesting that my membership should be withdrawn and calling me all sorts of names just because time constraints did not permit for his bail application immediately. No. I will not take that because my integrity is at stake and I will pursue the matter even to the Supreme Court against this attack on my person.” However, despite the altercation between the senior lawyer and his client, who also applied to change his counsel, the SAN went ahead to argue the case of the Managing Director of Dadin Kowa Microfinance Bank who has been in prison custody since February this year prompting, the court presided over by Justice M. H. Kurya to vary his bail condition This followed complaints by the defence counsel of the difficulty in meeting the bail condition earlier given by the court .According to the judge, the new condition to be met by the Bank MD include provision of a Plateau state civil servant not below level 14 who will tender his letter of first appointment, deposition of international passport by the accused, one surety and the sum of N120 million naira as against provision of two Permanent Secretaries who will deposit their letters of first appointment and international passports, two sureties, and the sum of N5bn demanded by the court earlier .The case has been adjourned till April 5, 2016.]]>
