A legal practitioner, Sir Nkemakolam S.C. Okoro, through his counsel Emmanuel C. Emerenini, has issued a stern warning to Paul Arochukwu to desist from making “false, fabricated and malicious allegations and publications” against him. The warning comes amidst an ongoing legal dispute between the two parties, with an appeal currently pending before the Supreme Court of Nigeria.
According to the letter, Okoro had filed a petition with the Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee (LPDC) at the request of another lawyer, Innocent Okorie Omoko, who presented video evidence of being hired by the complainant, Fabian Aroh Ajah. However, the LPDC issued a direction for Okoro to apologize without allowing him to defend himself against allegations of forgery.
Dissatisfied with the LPDC’s decision, Okoro filed an appeal at the Supreme Court challenging the directive. He also filed a motion to stay the execution of the LPDC’s order pending the appeal’s outcome. Despite the pending appeal and Okoro’s withdrawal from the case, Arochukwu has allegedly continued to make defamatory statements against Okoro on various platforms.
In response to the persistent alleged defamation, Okoro has filed a lawsuit against Arochukwu and the publisher of Sahara Reporters, seeking damages for the alleged libelous publications. The letter warns Arochukwu that failure to cease the defamatory statements may result in further legal action, including criminal prosecution for cyber-attacks and defamation.
