The attention of concerned readers should be drawn to paragraph 1 of the Code of Conduct for Public Officers in Part 1 of the 5th schedule to the Constitution of Nigeria which provides that “A public officer shall not put himself in a position where his personal interest conflicts with his duties and responsibilities.” The last two attorney-generals (Mike Andoakaa (SAN) and Mohammed Adoke (SAN) abused their office by withdrawing over 50 serious cases of official corruption including the cases of their clients. If a lawyer who is defending corruption cases is made the Attorney-General of the Federation what is the assurance that he will not discontinue such cases? This is why the Constitution has provided that conflict of interests by public officers is prohibited.]]>
