The defendant, who lives at Nyanya, Abuja, was arraigned on a one-count charge of receiving stolen diesel. Prosecutor Habila Jonathan told the court that Musa Abubakar of Mizchin Plaza, Nyanya, Abuja, lodged a complaint at the Nyanya Police Station on Feb. 5. Jonathan said the defendant received 200 litres of stolen diesel from Hassan Jibrin, now at large. He said that Jibrin, a security guard at the Plaza, stole the 200 litres of diesel from the plaza and sold it to the defendant. The prosecutor said that the defendant was caught when he was buying another stolen diesel from Jibrin and apprehended when he tried to escape. “The diesel was recovered from the Toyota Camry of Jibrin. He said the offence contravened Section 217 of the Penal Code. The defendant pleaded innocence of the offence. The judge, Hassan Ishaq, granted bail to the defendant in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum. Ishaq said the surety, who should reside within the court’s jurisdiction, should also present a national identity card or a driver’s licence. He adjourned further hearing in the case till Feb.24.]]>
