Lawyer Writes NBA President, Raises Alarm Over US Embassy's Policy Of Using Own Consular Associates Over Nigerian Notaries Public

According to the wordings of the letter, the said advisor is calling on Mr. Usoro to use his good office to intervene in the matter as same shows a lack of regard for the Nigerian Bar. Below read the Open Letter Dear Mr. President; Mr. Paul Usoro, I am a Legal Practitioner in Nigeria, and I am pleased with a number of interventions your office and administration has made in respect of positioning the Nigerian Bar for a better future. Most commendable is the immediate intervention in respect of the lawyer who was assaulted by the police in Ilorin, Kwara State. I look forward to the outcome of your meeting with the Inspector General of Police. Sir, just this morning, on a WhatsApp legal platform I belong to; Law, Ethics and Practice (LEAP), we discussed a disturbing development about the American Embassy and Consulate employing its own officials as Notaries Public in place of Nigerians. While I admit that there are bad eggs in the profession which may have necessitated this development, we cannot possibly allow the American Embassy and Consulate be a law unto itself. Their action (if true), shows a lack of regard for the Nigerian Bar. It would have been appropriate if the Nigerian Bar Association had been consulted towards resolving whatever issues they have in respect of Nigerian Notaries Public.
