The State Judicial Service Commission, SJSC, has uncovered fraud perpetrated by a lawyer and has meted out various disciplinary actions against the erring staff. The Commission headed by the State Chief Judge, Justice Marshal Umukoro, also affirmed recommendations of the investigation panel and accordingly by compulsorily retiring one Barrister John Nwokobia, an Assistant Director in the Commission for unauthorized and illegal withdrawal of sums of money from an account operated by the Court and the conversion same for personal use. The Commission, which has its Chairman as the State Chief Judge and other members including President of Customary Court of Appeal, Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, members of Nigerian Bar Association and other interest groups, stated that the purpose of the action was not to witch-hunt any staff but to reinforce the principle and lofty ideals of probity, accountability and discipline, which the Judiciary system stands for. Other affected staff committed various offences ranging from misappropriation of funds, dereliction of duty, gross insubordination, incompetence and who infracted on the public service rules and regulations. The appointment of Mr. Patrick Ifeanyi Nwachukwu, President of Oshimili South Area Customary Court, Asaba, was terminated on proven allegation of incompetence and indiscriminate striking out of cases. While considering several disciplinary reports submitted to it, the Commission equally dismissed Mr. Matthew Happy Edirin, a driver, for abandonment of duty, negligence, insubordination and gross misconduct, even as one Mr Akpotohwho was demoted from the post of Chief Driver GL. 07 to that of Senior Motor Driver Mechanic GL. 06 while Mr. Augustine Akatugba was issued a warning letter. Mr. Patrick Ezeute and Bridget were exonerated by the Commission. On the other hand, the case of Mr. Ebute Moses, who converted monies ordered by Court in a suit into personal use by lodging into an account was deferred. It set up a committee to look into the petition against Mrs. Elizabeth Uviaherd, while also approving the reinstatement of Augustine Odigwe into the State Judiciary Service Commission as President Grade 11, GL. 15 with effect from 5th June, 2018 based on the judgement of the National Industrial Court.]]>
