M. O. Idam, Esq., has raised alarm over the adoption and incarceration of a colleague Pius Awoke, Esq, by Operatives of State Security Service (SSS) on his way back from Abuja.

A statement shared on social media sighted by TheNigerialawyer reads “I have just been informed by   Uguru Justus Sunday Esq, that, a learned colleague by name Pius Awoke, an Ebonyi State-based legal practitioner in the Chambers of

Luke Nkwegu & Co., who had traveled to Abuja for  a matter was on his way back to his Abakaiki base on the 27th of July 2021, when the State Security Service (SSS)  intercepted and abducted him in Lokoja alongside 12 others, on the ground that he attended the hearing of the IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu.”

“The Information about  Pius Awoke’s arrest was shared by one of the passengers who escaped from the commercial vehicle which Pius Awoke also boarded.

“Since the unlawful and unwarranted abduction of Pius Awoke, no one including his colleagues in Chambers has been able to gain access to him till date, as his whereabouts has remained unknown.”

Idam called on Learned Silks, Elders of the Bar, Senior Members and Learned Colleagues to intervene and see to the release of Pius Awoke, as all effort made to gain access to him since his unlawful detention proved abortive.

“I call on the stakeholders  and every Lawyer in Nigeria to lend their voice in demanding  the urgent release of Pius Awoke or fort with be charged to Court if he has Committed any offense known to Law.”

“We shall not relent in resisting any attempt by this tyranic regime at all cost to intimidate and humiliate Lawyers who go about their lawful business in Nigeria,” he stated.
