An Ilorin-based Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, Abeny Mohammed has advised President Muhammadu Buhari to be more astute in the handling of the various challenges confronting the country.
On the Christmas and Maulud festivals, Mohammed said the current economic challenges and hardship occasioned by fuel scarcity, insecurity and human rights violations in the country have brought to focus the “Hobbesian perspective on the desirability of government.”
Mohammed criticized the ‘mishandling of the Shiites protest in Zaria and Biafra agitators’. He condemned the “killing of defenceless civilians in Zaria by soldiers.”
On the festivities, which would usher in the New Year, the lawyer said it is very rare that Nigerians and indeed the rest of the world are celebrating simultaneously the birthdays of the founders of the world’s two leading faiths, Islam and Christianity.
“In the face of various vices afflicting Nigerians, one may ask, what are we celebrating? Let us thank Nigerians for their forbearance,” he said.
