The Law Officers Association (LOAN) Sokoto Branch, has embarked on an indefinite strike since the 8th day of May, 2018. The boycotting of the court by the law officers is a reflection of the officers’ fallout with the Sokoto state Governor, Tambuwal. Many reasons have been said to be responsible for the crisis in the northern branch. According to a reliable source, the governor has failed to pay the law officers their entitlement for two years now. ”In the past two years, outfit and furniture (rob) allowances were not paid State Counsel, while their colleagues working at judiciary were paid; state counsel has to go to commercial business center in order to typeset the court processes he was assigned to handle and at his expense, no one would reimburse him, there were only two computers in the ministry both got spoilt. ”Some allowances in their salaries were no longer been paid. It’s a duty of a counsel to pay for witnesses transport from their salaries and no reimbursement. No functioning convenience (toilet) at the ministry, lawyers have to go home or neighbouring ministries looking for convenience. ”Many lawyers in the ministry have no offices therefore they stay at the conference hall of the ministry. Also ack of general welfare, motivation from the ministry is a factor as well,” he said. The development has pushed the law officers to protest against the government, which has led to some cases being paralyzed in Court for some days now. It was also confirmed that even cases handled at the magistrate courts had been stayed.]]>
