Kogi State Government and the Police Commissioner, Hakeem Busari, have said they did not know how the security details of Deputy Governor Simon Achuba were removed from his official residence before he returned from a journey over the weekend.
Achuba, on Sunday, claimed that his life was in danger following the withdrawal of his security details allegedly on the order of Governor Yahaya Bello.
Achuba, at a press briefing, said he was shocked after returning from his village where he had gone for Saturday’s rescheduled elections to find the gate to his official residence devoid of his security personnel.
“I was surprised to see that all policemen attached to my house have been withdrawn. I then put a call across to the Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Busari, who also expressed shock and promised to give it an urgent attention.”
Achuba said that despite the promise, “After about an hour, I called him again, but he refused to pick my call. I sent a text message to him and, up till now, he has not got back to me.”
Achuba called on the Acting Inspector General of Police to intervene so as to maintain law and order in the state.
He disclosed that he and his principal, Governor Bello, had disagreed when he (Achuba) insisted that government must do things according to the will of the people.
When contacted, the Director General Media & Publicity to the Governor, Kingsley Fanwo, said, “It is not the responsibility of the governor to give security even to himself. The security heads do.
“So, the governor is not responsible for posting security to the deputy governor. If his claims are true, kindly get in touch with the security agencies to give explanations.”
In response, the Kogi State Police Commissioner, Hakeem Busari, said that he had promised to look into the matter.
“He contacted me and I told him I was going to look into it and I’m working on it to know what to do.
“I want to contact the ADC to the Governor to know why the deputy governor’s details were withdrawn.
“I spoke to the deputy governor, I think this morning, that I was going to do something about it.
“He requested for two extra policemen prior to the withdrawal of his details. I don’t know if those two were given to him before the withdrawal of his details.
“We post policemen to Government House, but I think it’s the ADC to Governor who is the person in charge of security at the Government House. He posts them.
“There is no problem. We will send two policemen there pending when the issue will be resolved,” Busari said.
