Kebbi Governorship Election: Court Dismisses PDP Suit

Delivering judgment on the three issues for determination by the court, the Presiding Judge, Justice Monica Dongban-Mensem, stated that the issues raised for appeal were resolved against the appellants, with a cost of 50,000 naira ordered in favour of each of the respondents and against the appellants. On August 11, 2015, the Kebbi State tribunal had dismissed the PDP’s petition saying the PDP and its candidates had abandoned their petition against the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate and winner of the governorship election, Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu. Aggrieved by the decision in the said ruling, the PDP and its candidate filed notice of appeal which was decided against them by the five Justices of the Appeal Court in Sokoto. With this judgment by the Court of Appeal, the election of Senator Bello Sarkin Yaki of the APC as governor of Kebbi State stands, until the appellants head to the Supreme Court.]]>
