JUST IN: Ex-NBA Enugu Chair Prof Osita Nnamani Escapes Assassination Attempt

Narrating his ordeal to Journalists at his residence located at Alpha River Pocket layout, beside Independence Layout Phase 2 in Enugu, Prof Nnamani who is also Dean of Faculty of Law Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) said the hoodlums who came with bulldozer to his house with the plan to demolish his building ended up beating up his family thereby carted away some properties and money from his home. He alleged that the attack which was carried out by 6 suspected hoodlums who came with guns and other weapons was under the supervision of some police men. He said: “I was in the office when I received a call that some people are coming to to demolish my house, I ran back to the house and when I was trying to talk to them, they pushed me out and beat up my wife and I.mThey also entered the house and took away money and other properties. “The hoodlums who came from Umuedenta in Amechi Awkunaw community later told me they have family land disputes with Ugwuaji family as they also removed roof of some houses in my neigbourhood. “I was surprised because I was not part of any suit, I was not serve with any process in court. The people that sold land to me were not part of any land dispute. No court process was served on me or posted anywhere, the court bellies were not there for any execution and beside they carried out the exercise on Tuesday which is public holiday. They also went to many houses and removed their roofs. “They also threatened to assassinate me and members of my family, boasting that they have made huge amount of money from these area and also that they got millions of naira from people in the area but if I report them to any police, they will close the case and even if I am killed, they will use the money they are gathering to close the case and nothing will happen to them,” he said Prof Nnamani who said he reported the incident to police headquarter noted that “a woman police deputy commissioner who I met at the police headquarters frowned at the situation and said she never authorize any police man for such supervision because police men from the state headquarters gave them coverage while they carried out the attack. I also went to divisional police station in my area, the DCO and two other policemen followed me and only witness the destruction without doing anything,” The former NBA chairman who alleged that the police has being bought over said the hoodlums who were brandishing knives and cutlasses prevented people from taken photographs of the demolished fence saying “it’s unfortunate that the police has being bought over with the possible excerption of the Deputy Comissioner in charge of state CID because she was annoyed and expressed her bitterness for the incident. Prof Nnamani said he bought the land over 10 years ago but started building it after 3 years and nobody ever told him that the land was in dispute “nobody ever posted anything here and the house has a title and I have spent over 25 million in building the house and they want to destroy it but unfortunately it is gross illegality in coming to demolish dwelling houses, removing fences and roofs. The world should know that we are not safe because these people are on drugs boasting to do anything without presence of the police to guarantee our safety and the promised to come back for more destruction,” he said. He thereby appealed for law to take its cost over the incident lamenting “if we have security agencies that can compromise, then what is their duties? Unfortunately the leave citizens in the hands of terrorists so the aw must take its cost”.
