The absence of Justice Babatunde Quadri of the Federal High Court 2, Awka, Anambra State, on Monday, stalled the trial of six students and a lecturer of the Madonna University, Okija.

The students and the lecturer are standing trial for allegedly criticising the school on the social media.

They had been remanded in prison for seven months before the court granted them bail in July.

During the resumed hearing on Monday, the Madonna seven, who were in court before 8am, adorned black attire.

After waiting for over three hours, officials announced that the court would not sit owing to the absence of the judge.

Speaking with journalists, the counsel for the students said the court officials gave them December 3, 2019, as the next adjourned date.

Reacting, one of the parents of the students, Christopher Onyejekwe, said the situation was frustrating and urged the Catholic Church to prevail on the founder of the university, Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Ede, to stop punishing the students unnecessarily.

One of the students, Blackson Owhouda, said his pain was that his mother died of a heart attack when she heard that he was in prison.
