Former Publicity Secretary of the Abuja Branch of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Silas Joseph Onu, has said that the FCT High Court must without delay, apologize to Mr. Hameed Jimoh for all the insults heaped on him for being a voice against Corruption.

Mr. Silas Onu made this statement whilst reaching to the reply by the Special Senior Assistant to the Chief Registrar of the High Court of the FCT, Chuks Ubani, over the article written by Mr. Jimoh against the management of the Court.

Mr. Onu also said that he doesn’t recall any meeting during which lawyers consented to be charged 10% of their filing fees for the development of e-filing technology by a private firm, adding that, the FCT High Court imposed the charges on lawyers without notice, and made it a mandatory precondition for filing of cases.

”I want this my response to the stupid reply from the FCT High Court to get to the person who authorized such a stupid baseless response.

”The FCT High Court must without delay, apologize to Mr. Jimoh for all the insults heaped on him for being a voice against Corruption.

”I do not recall any meeting during where lawyers consented to be charged 10% of their filing fees for the development of e-filing technology by a private firm. The FCT High Court imposed that charge on lawyers without notice, and made it a mandatory precondition for filing of cases,” he said.

He further quizzed among others, why they are paying for a service that is yet to take-off. He also stressed that there are clear elements of corruption, and that has further been made clear by the lame responses and the attempt to intimidate Jimoh, adding that they will mobilise and demand that the CJ explains why he has allowed the illegal charges to go on in his court, as Mr. Jimoh is not alone.

”In any case, why are we paying for a service that is yet to take-off? What is the FCT High Court doing with all the budget it receives from FGN? What are they doing with the payments obtained from the parking lots? Did we also agree when the Court unilaterally hiked the fees payable for Affidavit?

”There are clear elements of corruption, and that has further been made clear by the lame responses and the attempt to intimidate Jimoh.

”Let it be noted that Jimoh is no longer alone. We will mobilise and demand that the CJ explain why he has allowed the illegal charges to go on in his court.

”Under what law is the Court operating such fund-raising drive? This is merely the beginning and we shall overcome. The legal profession is not people that are afraid.

Some lazy sets of people have now made themselves aids of judges because they cannot survive private practice and are now being used to intimidate a young man who has stood up against illegality,” he added.

Concluding, he said that Jimoh must be answered, as the said response is a fabrication and total falsehood.

TheNigerialawyer (TNL) recalls that the SSA to the Chief Registrar of the FCT High Court has earlier replied Mr. Hameed Jimoh over the article he wrote against the management, challenging among others, the alleged hike of 10% charge on filing fees.
