The Nigerian Branch of the International Law Association (ILA-NG) would on Tuesday March 5, 2019, hold its 5th annual conference at the International Centre for Arbitration, Lekki, Lagos.

The conference will focus on emerging business and human rights norms in international law, and how the interpretation and application of international law could support businesses in this important area.

According to a statement by the organizers, the Conference is also designed to provide a platform to examine salient issues in the development and practice of international business and human rights law in Nigeria.

Lawyers, non-lawyers in business and financial spheres, academics, advocate, practitioners and students interested in international law, would attend the conference.

Branch President, Professor Fidelis Oditah QC, SAN, Professor Ibironke Odumosu (University of Saskatchewan, Canada), Dr. Babatunde Ajibade, SAN, FCIArb (Managing Partner, SPA Ajibade & Co), and Seni Adio, SAN would be among the speakers.

Others are the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice of Edo State, Prof. Yinka Omorogbe, Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice of Nasarawa State, Prof Abdul Karim Kana, and Mrs Doyin Rhodes-Vivour.

The Chairman of the Conference Organizing Committee, Professor Damilola S. Olawuyi, said “This year’s conference will provide a significant opportunity for stakeholders, especially corporate lawyers, and non-lawyers in business, government, economic and financial spheres, to sharpen their understanding of the contours of this emerging area of international law.”

The ILA was founded in Brussels in 1873. The ILA now has some 4,500 members in 45 national and regional branches around the world. It is headquartered in London under the Chairmanship of the Right Honourable The Lord Jonathan Mance, former deputy president of the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom.

Membership of the ILA is open to anyone, including lawyers and non-lawyers, interested in international law.
